Teach Your Monster to Read Practice Mode
Want to spend a little more time on specific letter sounds? Then check out Teach Your Monster to Read Practice Mode. You can find loads of mini games to choose from.
Practice Mode on the web
- Sighties - for kids to quickly identify sight words
- Minigames - practise specific GPCs in a variety of letter-sound matching/blending and segmenting games
- Flashcards - to practise all GPCs with images
Sighties
A Sighties hide and seek game! Sight words are read out and the matching word must be clicked before time runs out. This game gets children responding quickly to those sight words. Sighties is currently only available on our website (not on the app store).
Minigames
All the minigames from the main adventure is instantly playable with any grapheme you choose. This is the perfect way to consolidate students learning.
Flashcards
Like physical flashcards, select the graphemes you'd like your class to practise.
Once selected, clicking the speaker icon reads out the letter sounds and associated words to you.
Move onto the next grapheme by selecting the tick mark.
Practice Mode on the app
To access Practice Mode from the Teach Your Monster to Read app, click the pink 'Practice' button in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
On the next screen, you can choose between having a '10-minute Adventure' or a 'Single Minigame'.
10 Minute Adventure
Choose 'Quick Play' for a quick entry to practise all the letter-sounds.
Choose 'Choose letter-sounds' to choose 6 letter sounds to practise in the 10 Minute Adventure.
Choose 'Choose a set of letter-sounds' to select a set of four sounds to practise.
Single Minigame
Choose between Letter sound matching games or Blending and segmenting games.
Choose a letter sound to practise in the minigame.
Please note that 'Sighties' is only available on the web version of Practice Mode.
